Jill H. Teitel, Esq. began her private practice as a trusts and estates attorney after fourteen years of private law firm experience and service in government as Special Counsel to the Assistant Corporation Counsel at the Administration for Children’s Services. Ms. Teitel previously was employed as Court Attorney-Referee for the Surrogate’s Court in Kings County, New York. She now concentrates her practice principally in the areas of administration of trusts and estates, estate planning, contested trust and estate matters, Article 81 guardianship matters, mediation of commercial and trusts and estates disputes, and commercial litigation.

Ms. Teitel has an in depth understanding of Article 81 Guardianship proceedings, as she serves as a Court Evaluator and Counsel to the Alleged Incapacitated Person. She previously was appointed by the Appellate Division, 2nd Department, to serve as a Court Examiner for Kings and Richmond Counties.

Ms. Teitel has a varied and well-rounded legal background. After graduating Brooklyn Law School in 1996, she concentrated in commercial litigation for several years, assisting small businesses in their transactions, including protecting their intellectual properties, mergers and acquisitions, and secured transactions. She has also represented a party in an international arbitration and for three years served as an observer at the United Nations UNCITRAL for arbitration and secured transactions. Additionally, she is a mediator for the commercial division of the New York State Supreme Court and the New Jersey Superior Court for Civil matters.

Ms. Teitel is admitted to the state and federal courts in New York, New Jersey, and is an inactive member of the Colorado bar.

Ms. Teitel enjoys public speaking and informing the community of necessary information in the areas of trusts and estates. She is published in the fields of trusts and estates, mediation, arbitration, contracts, business organizations, and secured transactions in the United States and in an international recognized publication. She is proficient in Spanish and has a working knowledge of Japanese. She actively participates in the Trusts and Estates section and the Elder Law and Special Needs Sections of the New York State Bar Association.
